VMWare
VMWare is a software tool for several different operating systems, including Windows, Linux and Unix, that allows you to install a virtual operating system within your current operating system. For example, should you need to use an operating system other than Windows, you can use VMWare to add this other operating system without uninstalling Windows.

What is VMWare?
VMWare is a piece of virtual machine software developed by VMWare Inc and first released in 1999. By installing a virtual machine on, for example, your Windows operating system, you can simulate another operating system - for example Mac or Linux. This way, you will be able to use a programme exclusively for these operating systems without uninstalling your current one and then installing the new one.
What kind of virtualisation software is there?
There are three different types of virtualisation software:
-
Desktop virtualisation software
-
Server virtualisation software
-
Cloud management software
Some of VMWare Inc's main server virtualisation software are VMWare vSphere and VMWare Server.
How do VMWare virtual machines work?
VMWare is the leading virtualisation software in the web hosting field. VM virtual machines make it possible to run more than one instance of the operating system on the same server. There can be up to 16 instances of the virtual machines running on a single physical server. It acts as an intermediary between the hardware and the operating system on the server. It increases the capacity of the hardware by dividing it into individual servers that are given their own processors and memory. You can allocate a portion of the available processor pool to each virtual system.
Memory usage can be configured manually or dynamically. You have the option to limit memory usage on certain servers to prevent the consumption of too much memory.
VMWare also allows you to allocate hard disc space. The drives you set up will appear as if they were a physical hard drive installed on the server.
What operating systems is VMWare available on?
It is available on many different operating systems - including Windows, Linux and Unix. Each VMWare virtual machine already comes with an operating system and an application. Each virtual machine on the server can operate independently and without connection to other virtual machines. Individual servers work in the same way as physical dedicated servers. VMWare offers device drivers for most of the major devices. It supports many client operating systems like Microsoft Small Business Server. If you install new hardware on the server, you can easily reconfigure it without causing any visible changes to the operating systems. As soon as the server is reconfigured, the server can boot up and go live.
