Sustainability.

Our role in a more sustainable future.

Digitalization

makes our everyday lives easier, faster, and more efficient. However, it also comes with a downside. Globally, the digital world already accounts for approximately 7% of total electricity consumption, and this share is expected to grow significantly by 2030. In particular, the expansion of data centres, cloud services, and artificial intelligence requires enormous amounts of energy—far more than most people realize.

Across the world

the rapid growth of digital services is increasing demand for energy-intensive infrastructure such as data centres, cloud platforms, and artificial intelligence. Digitalization is not climate-neutral, which means the IT industry has an important responsibility to reduce its environmental impact and help drive the transition towards a more sustainable future.

At itm8

we do not believe in pointing fingers or relying on quick fixes. We are fully aware of the climate impact our industry contributes to and of our role in addressing it. That is why we work systematically to improve ourselves—by reducing our own carbon footprint, setting expectations for technologies and suppliers, and helping our customers make more sustainable IT choices. Not because we are already where we want to be, but because we are committed to taking responsibility for the journey.

Our services

itm8's Sustainability Targets

Sustainability has long been an integrated part of itm8’s business approach. We began calculating and reporting our Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2022. In 2024, we further strengthened our climate efforts by completing our first full corporate greenhouse gas inventory and having our climate targets formally validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

SBTi is a globally recognized initiative that enables companies to set emissions reduction targets in line with climate science and the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C. Validation by SBTi provides confidence that itm8’s climate targets are robust, credible, and aligned with international best practices.

SBTi Commitments

We have established clear targets for our own operations (Scope 1 and Scope 2) through 2035, alongside a strong commitment to supplier engagement. For the first time, we are reporting on our SBTi-validated targets and presenting a structured climate strategy that reflects itm8's ambition to make a meaningful contribution to the transition towards a low-carbon future.

  • itm8 commits to reducing absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 63% by 2035, compared to the 2024 base year.
  • itm8 also commits to ensuring that 79% of suppliers by spend, covering purchased goods and services, will have science-based targets by 2030.

By joining SBTi and adopting its framework, we demonstrate our commitment to working towards a shared global goal: taking responsibility for our impact on the planet and helping to shape a better future. Through conscious choices and long-term commitment, we can create real and lasting change together.

Emissions Reduction Target

itm8 commits to reducing its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 63% by 2035, using 2024 as the base year.

Supplier Target

itm8 further commits that 79% of its suppliers, measured by spend on purchased goods and services, will have science-based targets in place by 2030.

Sustainable Procurement Action Plan

Supplier engagement is a key component of itm8’s strategy to reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, as IT hardware and software represent approximately 75% of total emissions.

By promoting responsible sourcing and strengthening collaboration throughout the supply chain, itm8 aims to reduce emissions across its value chain. As part of its SBTi commitment, itm8 targets that 79% of suppliers, measured by spend on purchased goods and services, will have science-based targets by 2030.

Reduction strategy

Electrification of Company Cars
Transportation from company cars is itm8’s largest source of Scope 1 emissions. Therefore, electrifying our vehicle fleet is a key part of our climate strategy. The share of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids has increased significantly in recent years, and our goal is for all company cars to be electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles by 2030.

Renewable Energy
As a data and software company, itm8 has a significant electricity consumption, particularly related to datacenters. To avoid increasing emissions, we are actively working to transition to renewable energy sources. In 2025, 93% of our electricity consumption was covered by renewable electricity certificates (RECs), and our ambition is to achieve 100% renewable electricity by 2030 through a combination of certificates and long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).

Supplier Engagement
Supplier collaboration is essential to reducing our Scope 3 emissions. Our goal is for 79% of our suppliers, measured by procurement spend on goods and services, to have science-based climate targets in place by 2030. This helps drive transparency, accountability, and long-term emissions reductions across our value chain.
