Sustainability.
The path to a better future.
Sustainability
Sustainability is more than a buzzword — it is a way of living and a vital necessity for the future of our planet. The term sustainability originates from the Latin word sustinere, meaning to maintain, support, or preserve. Over time, the concept has grown to represent a broader commitment: living in a way that safeguards our natural resources and protects the environment from long-term harm.
Living sustainably
Living sustainably means taking responsibility for our actions and the impact they have on the world around us. It involves making conscious choices that support environmental, economic, and social balance. By reducing our carbon footprint, recycling, choosing renewable energy sources, and supporting fair labour practices, each of us can play a meaningful role in creating a more sustainable future.
Opportunity
Sustainability is not only a responsibility — it is also an opportunity to shape a better future for generations to come. It is an ongoing journey that demands commitment, innovation, and collaboration. By working together, we can create a world where people and nature coexist in harmony, and where our resources are managed in ways that secure their availability for the future.
itm8's Sustainability Targets
We are proud to share that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially validated and approved itm8’s short‑term science‑based climate targets. This milestone strengthens our strategic sustainability efforts and reaffirms our commitment to significantly reducing our emissions:
- Scope 1 and 2: Significant reduction in absolute GHG emissions by 2035, with 2024 as base year.
- Supply chain: The majority of our suppliers must have science-based climate targets by 2030.
By joining the SBTi and adopting its framework, we demonstrate our readiness to contribute to a shared global goal — taking responsibility for our environmental impact and helping to shape a better future. Through conscious choices and long‑term commitment, we can create meaningful and lasting change together.

How does itm8 work with sustainability and ESG today, including governance, risk management, and what are the plans going forward?
itm8 integrates sustainability across its services and internal processes through a comprehensive ESG framework covering environmental, social and economic issues as well as governance and risk management.
Environmental initiatives
itm8 is actively reducing its carbon footprint by modernising data centres and optimising energy consumption, including through the transition to green power. Our Malmö office has recently moved to a WELL-certified building with a lower environmental impact. All company-leased vehicles must be electric and electric or hybrid cars are prioritised for car rental.
Through Lifecycle Management and Circular IT services, we manage the entire lifecycle of IT equipment - from procurement to reuse and recycling - to minimise waste and reduce environmental impact. Cloud-based solutions also reduce the need for physical infrastructure and energy-intensive on-premises servers.
In 2025, itm8 committed to the SBTi framework as part of its overall sustainability strategy. This commitment ensures that our climate targets are both ambitious and scientifically validated, guiding our efforts to reduce emissions across operations and our value chain. As part of this commitment, itm8 has set the following science-based targets (currently under SBTi review).
Social responsibility
itm8 promotes diversity and inclusion to ensure a fair workplace. We also help customers comply with GDPR through services that support ethical and legal handling of data.
Financial sustainability
By helping businesses with digitalisation and automation, itm8 creates efficiency and reduces costs. Flexible as-a-service models enable customers to scale IT resources as needed and avoid unnecessary expenses.
Governance and risk management
Sustainability is incorporated into itm8's governance structure, including whistleblower schemes and ESG-supported risk management.
Going forward
itm8 is developing a strategic plan for CO₂ reduction with clear priorities, concrete actions and realistic milestones to support the transition to a low-carbon future. In addition, itm8 is working on automated sustainability reporting for products and services purchased through the company's E-shop. CO₂ calculations are already available for selected services such as Virtual Server, and there are plans to extend this to the rest of the portfolio.

itm8 is strongly committed to ethical business behaviour, based on principles of professionalism, fairness and integrity. We follow the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and have a zero-tolerance policy towards human rights violations, bribery and corruption. These values are anchored in itm8's Code of Conduct, which forms the foundation of our ethical framework.
To support transparency and accountability, we offer a whistleblower scheme that is available to both employees and external parties. Our Anti-Corruption and Competition Policy describes the expectations we have for employees, including rules on gifts, co-operation with third parties and relationships with suppliers. Key measures include:
- A gift and hospitality policy
- Mandatory anti-bribery training for employees
- Anti-bribery and compliance clauses in itm8's standard contractsSupplier compliance is managed through a streamlined and robust supply chain structure. While we recognise potential risks of breaches of our Code of Conduct, these are considered limited as we primarily work with suppliers in Denmark and Western Europe. We actively monitor our supply chain and prioritise collaborations with reputable and transparent partners to ensure compliance with human rights standards.

How is itm8 working to reduce its environmental and climate impact, including targets, emissions, energy, transport and product footprint?
In 2024, itm8 conducted its annual CO₂e inventory according to the GHG Protocol, covering Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Total site-based emissions were 1,600.29 tCO₂e, while market-based emissions were 1,340.76 tCO₂e. Due to improved data quality and methodology, 2024 is now set as the baseline year for future comparisons. itm8 plans to join the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and develop a long-term strategy for CO₂ reduction.
To support this, itm8 uses the climate tool CEMAsys to track emissions across the organisation. The data is collected in collaboration between global and local sustainability teams and is based on both consumption data (e.g. kWh, litres) and activity data (e.g. kilometres driven) to ensure high accuracy.
itm8 actively reduces its environmental impact through several initiatives:
Energy efficiency: Continuous monitoring of energy consumption in data centres and prioritising green power at all locations.
Transport: Reducing travel and promoting carpooling and shared overnight stays when travel is necessary.
Waste management: Implementing structured systems in offices and kitchens to reduce waste.
IT equipment: Invest in energy-efficient devices to reduce consumption.
Transport partners: Collaborating with logistics partners that can demonstrate a strong environmental profile.Although itm8 is not subject to CSRD requirements in 2024-2025, the company has chosen to focus on a solid strategy for emission reduction and improving ESG data quality. These efforts reflect itm8's ambition to reduce its climate footprint and run a more sustainable business.
-
How does itm8 promote a healthy and inclusive work environment, including DEI, equal opportunities and management follow-up?
itm8 actively works to create a workplace characterised by diversity, equality and inclusion. All employees are entitled to equal opportunities - regardless of ethnicity, social background, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability. This principle is a core part of our values and is actively supported across the organisation.
Our Code of Conduct describes the expectations for ethical behaviour, respectful communication and professional conduct. It explicitly prohibits any form of harassment and discrimination and emphasises itm8's commitment to equal employment opportunity. How does itm8 ensure product quality and work with lifecycle management for IT products?
itm8 ensures high product quality through a structured management system with clear goals, KPIs, deviation registration, complaint handling and regular internal and external audits followed by management reviews.
All IT products - both those we use internally and those we sell or lease to customers - are managed through our subsidiary itm8 Finance AB, which is responsible for the entire product lifecycle. What is the approximate amount of CO₂e per computer for international shipping?
The approximate amount of CO₂e from the international transport of a standard laptop varies depending on the mode of transport and distance. Here is an overview based on typical value chains:
Air transport (common for electronics):
- Emissions: approx. 500-600 g CO₂e per tonne-km
- Example: A 2kg laptop flown 10,000 km (e.g. China → Sweden):
≈ 10 kg CO₂eTransport by ship (more climate-friendly):
- Emissions: approx. 10-40 g CO₂e per tonne-km
- Same journey (10,000 km):
≈ 0.2-0.8 kg CO₂e
