Password analysis: Test how strong (or weak) your passwords are

Weak passwords are easy to guess, phish and crack. In other words: they are no obstacle for hackers. Are your employees' passwords strong enough? Let us test your company passwords, so you are better protected against cyber attacks.

Analysing passwords

Why are strong passwords important?

"123456789" and "password" are some of the most popular passwords in Denmark. It's like handing access on a silver platter to a hacker. And even if you're a bit more resourceful than that, many passwords can be easily guessed, phished, cracked or bought online.

Of course, you want to protect your organisation's valuable data. It's hard to do that with weak passwords. Your best defence against hacker attacks is long, complex passwords and user identity validation.

3 reasons to test your passwords and policies

By testing your passwords and policies, you can identify weaknesses and take the necessary steps to strengthen your overall security.

Here are three reasons why it's important to test your passwords and policies:

#1

Get a quality check

Get an overview of the quality of passwords used across the environment and the different account types - regular users and administrators.

#2

Get a better insight

Gain insight into the length, strength, complexity and most commonly used passwords. This will show the level of security and can impact the future content regarding awareness campaigns and/or password policy changes.

#3

Get concrete recommendations

Get concrete recommendations to improve password quality in your environment.

password analysis

How the analysis works

The password analysis is performed on extracts of your Active Directory database. Initially, we spend up to a day cracking the database using highly advanced equipment. Afterwards, we analyse the result using various specialised tools and methods.

Data will be stored in an isolated and dedicated environment at itm8 to ensure data confidentiality. Likewise, the report will also be encrypted. Data will be permanently destroyed once the final version of our report has been delivered.

The analysis lasts 2 days.

The analysis is delivered as a written report containing:

  • A non-technical section with a summary for management and decision makers
  • A technical section with detailed observations, statistics and concrete recommendations.

Password & Identity Manager and Multi-Factor Authentication

There are different solutions for protecting identities, roles and access. It's crucial to increase your internal security level and have a strong cyber defence.

With a Password & Identity Management solution, you can prevent employees from reusing passwords, forgetting them or writing them down in a non-secure place like a slip of paper or in Excel.

Unfortunately, a password on its own is no longer secure enough to validate a user's identity. Especially when it comes to accessing sensitive data and systems. With Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), you get an extra layer of security as users must validate their identity via app or SMS.
